About ICSF

The International Conference on Sustainable Futures: Environmental, Technological, Social and Economic Matters (ICSF) is a peer-reviewed international conference, the premier interdisciplinary forum for social scientists, life scientists, engineers, and practitioners to present their latest research results, ideas, developments, and applications.
The ICSF contributes to all aspects of sustainable development, focused on the intersection of sustainability, environment, and technology and their larger implications for corporations, government, education institutions, regions, and society now and in the future.
We invite you to participate in the conference and look forward to fruitful cooperation.

Call for Papers

Authors are invited to submit full (and original research) papers (6+ pages) including surveys, tutorials, perspective/colloquia articles on conference topics of interest through the HotCRP by January 31, 2025.

Papers that meet the primary requirements or have formatting violations will be accepted with review. The remaining papers will be peer-reviewed by three reviewers based on their technical quality, relevance, originality, significance, and clarity. If necessary, a fourth, additional reviewer may be involved. The Program Committee will use the reviews to determine which papers will be accepted for presentation at the conference. The review results will be announced to the submitting authors by email, along with any reviewer comments.

Accepted papers will be submitted to the ... in three months after the conference.

Primary requirements

  • Submissions must be:
    • basically, correct and sound;
    • original (not published elsewhere partly or in full and not submitted to other venues for simultaneous consideration);
    • within the conference scope;
    • presented at the conference (at least one article's author should attend).
  • Up to 2 papers per author (including as co-authors) are accepted.
  • Authors utilizing language models (LLMs) to aid in idea generation or drafting of papers should explicitly disclose their usage, providing complete transparency about the LLM employed (including name, version, model, and source) within the submitted paper; such usage must be appropriately documented in the Methods section or acknowledgment section of the manuscript. Authors are urged to verify accuracy and are reminded that, as named authors, they bear complete responsibility for the entire content of the work.
  • Authors must ensure citations enhance value, remain unbiased, support relevant points, and avoid superfluous references—particularly to self or others' works—to manipulate citation scores, maintaining ethical standards. The editors reserve the right to exclude excessive citations if these are considered to be potential acts of citation manipulation.
  • Please disclose any potential conflicts of interest in the acknowledgments section when you submit your article.
  • Authors are encouraged to refer to the Committee on Publishing Ethics (COPE) for all aspects of publication ethics (https://publicationethics.org/) and to conform to the ethical rules described on strictly https://www.e3s-conferences.org/about-the-journal/publishing-policies-ethics, in particular:
    • A single study is not split up into several parts to increase the number of submissions and submitted to various edited book projects or journals or to one journal over time (e.g., "salami-publishing").
    • No data have been fabricated or manipulated (including images) to support the manuscript's conclusions.
    • No data, text, or theories by others are presented as if they were the author's own ("plagiarism"). Proper acknowledgments to other works must be given (including closely copied material (near verbatim), summarized, and/or paraphrased), quotation marks are used for verbatim copying of material, and permissions are secured for copyrighted material.
    • Consent to submit has been received from all co-authors and responsible authorities at the institute/organization where the work has been carried out before submission.
    • Authors whose names appear on the submission have contributed sufficiently to the scientific work and share collective responsibility and accountability for the results.

Formatting options

ICSF 2025 uses the EDP Sciences format for the proceedings. Therefore, for preparing submission you should use LaTeX2e class file and LaTeX2e guidelines for your submissions. If you do not have experience with LaTeX and do not know how to install the whole machinery, you can use an online template in Overleaf, where all necessary libraries, etc. are already pre-installed.

Paper submission

In case you have never worked with the HotCRP before, you need to create your account using ... . You will be offered to enter your email and click the 'Next' button. The instructions for signing into Morressier will be sent to your email. After completing registration, you should sign in and complete the submission form.

Due to the double-blind peer review mode, you need to prepare two versions of your article in PDF format: a regular manuscript and an anonymized manuscript. Please remove any identifying information, such as authors' names or affiliations, from your anonymized manuscript before submission. In addition to following the instructions above, other steps must be taken to ensure the manuscript is correctly prepared for double-blind peer review. The key points to consider are:

  • Please do not use the author's name to refer to your previously published article. For example, write “Chukharev and Fedorenko [1] have demonstrated” rather than “we/the authors have previously demonstrated [1]”.
  • Also, make sure that any figures and tables do not contain any reference to author affiliations.
  • Choose uploaded file name anonymized.

ICSF FAQs

Full research papers

Research articles should contain sufficient background and motivation, and they should present proofs, where applicable, or at least outlines of such in sufficient detail to enable an expert to complete them. Thus, summaries and mere announcements of papers appearing elsewhere cannot be included, although more detailed versions of, e.g., a highly technical contribution may well be published elsewhere later.

Surveys

Surveys should cover a sufficiently broad topic and should normally not just review the author's recent research. In the case of surveys, proof of results may be optional.

Conference organizers have no formal relations with the Conference Proceedings Citation Index, CNKI, Ei Compendex, GeoRef, Inspec, J-Gate, JST, NASA Astrophysics Data System, Naver Academic, Scite, Scopus, WTI Frankfurt, Yewno, OCLC WorldCat, EX Libris Primo, EBSCO Discovery Service, British Library Services, Google Scholar, Serial Solutions, TDNET, INIS, etc., therefore we cannot give any promises on behalf of them. Please refrain from bothering us with the indexing - any inquiry should be addressed to the indexing databases directly.

  • Changes of authorship or in the order of authors are not accepted after acceptance of a contribution to the proceedings.
  • Requests to add or delete authors at the revision stage or after publication are serious and may be considered only after receipt of written approval from all authors and a detailed explanation about the role/deletion of the new/deleted author. The decision to accept the change rests with the proceedings' volume editor(s).

ICSF adheres to the following main standards:

  • Unbiased consideration is given to all papers regardless of race, gender, religious belief, ethnic origin, citizenship, or political philosophy of the authors.
  • Ensuring that no terminology is used that is offensive or might be perceived as offensive to others.
  • All papers should meet the following key points related to scientific content, quality, and presentation:
    1. Technical Criteria
      • Scientific merit: scientific rigor, accuracy, and correctness.
      • Clarity of expression; communication of ideas; readability and discussion of concepts.
      • Sufficient discussion of the context of the work and suitable referencing.
    2. Quality Criteria
      • Originality: Is the work relevant and novel?
      • Motivation: Does the problem considered have a sound motivation? All papers should demonstrate the scientific interest of the results.
      • Repetition: Have significant manuscript parts already been published?
      • Length: Is the content of the work of sufficient scientific interest to justify its length?
    3. Presentation Criteria
      • Title: Is it adequate and appropriate for the content of the article?
      • Abstract: Does it contain the essential information of the article? Is it complete? Is it suitable for inclusion by itself in an abstracting service?
      • Diagrams, figures, tables, and captions: Are they essential and clear?
      • Text and mathematics: Are they brief but still clear? If you recommend shortening, please suggest what should be omitted.
      • Conclusion: Does the paper contain a carefully written conclusion summarizing what has been learned and why it is interesting and useful?

Unlimited

  • number of pages in each article
  • use of colour
  • additional multimedia items (e.g., videos, simulations)
Absolutely! We understand that not everyone can attend in person, and we are committed to making our conference accessible to a global audience.
